About the Author
John A. Marshall was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated from The College of the Holy Cross. He was named a bishop in 1971 by Pope Paul VI. He served as bishop of Burlington, Vermont and Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Vicar to the United States Seminaries. He devised a method of measuring the effeciveness of seminaries that has been used as a world-wide model for the on-going Vatican/Pontifical Study of Seminaries. He died in 1994.
