"Modern Magick is a modern day classic. It has become the standard textbook of practical magical knowledge for magicians all over the world. We highly recommend it to beginner and Adept alike." Chic Cicero and Sandra Tabatha Cicero, Authors of Experiencing the Kabbalah; Self-Initiation Into the Golden Dawn Tradition; and The Golden Dawn Magical System "The information given in Modern Magick is clear, concise, educational and extremely practical! I personally learned more from this single volume than any other stylized instruction book that I have read on today's magickal marketplace." Essential Magick Course for the Beginning Magus
By EquesNiger
DM Kraig's essential masterwork is one of the key texts which has taken magick and again thrust it into the daylight. Magickal orders worldwide, from pagans, to Wiccans to the Golden Dawn, owe the tremendous rise in interest in magick in large part to Kraig's influence through this phenomenal volume. Unlike other texts, most characterized by Crowley's habit of talking around magickal theory, Kraig's text emphasizes the "DOING" in magick, and gets the reader/student performing rituals and making magick from the very first chapter. While heavily influenced and almost wholly based on the Golden Dawn system, Modern Magick also incorporates other systems, with a whole lotta pagan workings and a dash of tantric thrown in, to boot. Kraig was one of the first authors to address the much lamented tendency that ceremonial magicians talk ALOT about magick, but actually DO very little. This book is FUNDAMENTALLY focused on doing, and, while a course for the beginner, takes the student through sufficiently advanced magick to satisfy the depth of knowledge any novice is likely to aspire to. Also, Kraig doesn't spend tons of pages on the theoretical aspects, instead giving a cliff notes overview, then pointing the student to other, more comprehensive texts by authors more erudite on them than Kraig wishes to be so he can get the student back to doing magick! It's still the best course in magick out there, and anyone aspiring to learn magick of any sort should purchase this text and pursue the regimen of study and practice within!

What is magic?
By JB
Before I discovered this text, I was ambivalent to the idea of magic. What does it mean? On the one hand, I had ideas that magic was something evil and anti-Christian; while on the other hand I equated it to the fantasy world of tricks by entertainers like David Copperfield the magician, or fairy tales like Cinderella. This book has certainly dispelled much of my ignorance on the subject.
I am learning that magic is multifaceted, very spiritual and is a very practical tool (or way of life for many) to spiritual development and personal upliftment.
The path suggested by this work is not for the lazy. It requires discipline and commitment. The coursework provided is practical and explanations are as simple as one can expect from a subject matter that can get quite complex. I believe the complexity of the subject matter makes it necessary for one to spend a reasonable amount of time and effort on each lesson, as suggested by the author, in order to master the exercises.
For those who are not interested in the practice of magic, however, this book provides more than a glimpse into the world of the practician. It also reveals that in our daily lives, we all practice and or experience a little bit of magic every day. Just being alive and functioning in a world as complex as ours, is magic at work.
If you want to get the most out of this work, follow the instructions carefully. Do not rush. Take the time to practice the excercises, master them, and savor the results.

For new students beginning to studying Ceremonial Magic
By Dominic
This single book will get any new student up and running with PRACTICAL work in Ceremonial Magic. Understand before you buy this book, that it is for the study of CEREMONIAL MAGIC. If you are looking for Witchcraft or New Age ..., this book will not satisfy you (although it does contain some elements of both). I would give this work 5 stars, but there are too many deviations from the traditional Golden Dawn material. I am a purist. If you say you are going to present Golden Dawn techniques, then don't alter the content of it. Present it as it was meant to be. However, if this book is used in conjunction with Regardies' "The Golden Dawn" * AND * the Ciceros' "Self-Initiation", you will have the ability to check the differences and make any corrections that are necessary.
