I bought this book for use in a Voice and Diction class, after having used the website. (In truth, if you use the website, you don't really need the book.) I like that the book provides standard American, as well as British, pronunciations. The only reason I'm giving it less than four stars is that for some sounds it uses IPA symbols that seem to be non-standard. This use is consistent, though, so it's easy enough to work around.

This was a required textbook for my acting program, and in terms of learning VPS (voice, pronunciation, and speech) this was essential! Especially for stage actors, pronunciation is incredibly important.

A challenging vision for radically better Universities...

Lean University is a short and easy to read text that sets out Bob's vision of Lean in higher education, and is perfect for getting a flavour for how Lean works in Universities for staff right through to the most senior levels. Bob's vision of Universities is one of places where each person works, continuously and fundamentally, to deliver the best for their students.

This text is, however, not just describing a utopian dream. Bob succinctly, accurately and compellingly describes some of the barriers that prevent Universities from becoming Lean and gives practical guidance for how to counter these. His central themes are easy to understand but harder to apply, and will be difficult for some senior managers to hear; that University managers need to re-learn their craft, that teaching students has to be at the core of what we do, and that Lean ceases to be Lean when it is used at the expense of people. Bob's message is a passionate call for integrity in how we teach our students; that we must deliver what is valuable to students, in the best way possible, without accepting received wisdom.

A rallying-call for academic teachers, this text may read at times uncomfortably for those committed to research, and will challenge administrators to question the value of their activities. This reflects the genuine tensions that exist within higher education, and Bob presents us with an important challenge; that all staff in Universities must get better at working together to really improve what we deliver, to make an even bigger difference to individuals, and beyond.

A clear and concise read

Through Outlook 2007+ addin programming and reading through a book on that topic I found myself curious about diving deeper into the inner workings of what Outlook is built on top of. At first I thought MAPI was some boring, outdated annoyance, but after reading this book the authors have convinced me otherwise. MAPI is an intelligently architected system and this book does an amazing job of breaking it down and explaining how things work and why certain decisions were made. Even if you're just creating addins for Outlook and feel like you know your way around, the content found in this book will clear up a lot of questions and give you an edge that you didn't know existed.

This is one of the very few books on my shelf that I am curious to read from cover to cover.

easy to understand even as a beginner

This book gave me a chance to establish trans- lation/publishing project in my company. About two month ago When a leading publishing company in Japan sent a 5-page translation trial test on MAPI with short due date, I bought this book, read it through to understand MAPI, and then submitted the translated document.About 2 weeks later, we enjoyed receiving a good evaluation result,and we could get a book to be translated/DTP edited for the first time.Now the translation is being in progress, and We are trying to lay foundation for setting up book publishing section in the company.

A must have for MAPI and Exchange

It may be difficult to find a copy of this book but it will be well worth the effort. This book helps to clarify what is an extremely convoluted subject. The examples should be loaded onto your disk for fast searching of code examples showing how to use various functions. Don't attempt any serious look at MAPI or Exchange without having this book.

The pros and cons of this book

This book is very very useful. It helps if you at least are familiar with the KANJI at the back of the book because the answers are heavy on using kanji. however the furigana is by the kanji so you can understand how to pronounce the words. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF THIS BOOK COVERS YOUR GENKI BOOK, THIS BOOK COVERS:

Genki I 2nd edition textbook :The orange book
Genki I 2nd edition workbook
Genki II 2nd edition textbook
Genki II 2nd edition textbook

To understand where the answer section is for your book, you have to be able to read A LITTLE Katakana because the book is purely in Japanese. It's not hard to get a grasp of how the book is broken down. The first section is the Genki I textbook, then Genki I WB, then Genki II textbook and Genki II wb.

Also be weary, like I said before, you have to be familiar with your kanji. The book has mistakes on some kanji. For example, the strokes on the kanji for to speak 話 is not correct. If you copy that kanji to (cheat), it's almost a dead giveaway if your teacher grades harshly on kanji. The first line on 話 is supposed to be a diagonal line instead of a horizontal line. Well it's technically not a mistake, it's just how the typed version of the kanji looks, but you still need to be able to differentiate between the two.

THIS BOOK IS NOT A TEACHER'S REFERENCE MANUAL. IT WILL NOT HAVE ALL THE POWERPOINTS AND EXPLAINATIONS THAT COME WITH THE BOOK. THIS IS JUST AN 80PG BOOK OF PURE ANSWERS. THE TEACHER'S BOOK COSTS LIKE $120-$200 AND IS BLUE (I THINK. IT'S ON AMAZON)

Almost Perfect!

I enjoy using Genki to study the Japanese language and decided to buy the answer key to feel confident in my answers. I use this with both Genki 1 (second edition) and Genki 1 workbook.

Beware! This answer key is ONLY IN JAPANESE; therefore, my heart almost stopped when I opened this book expecting to see "Answer...". It took time for me to search for the section that contained the answers to questions in the workbook vs. textbook. Once your able to find the specific section you are working on, it's fairly easy to annotate what page you need to reference.

What's great about this book is that it contains answers to the ENTIRE Genki series (meaning answers to Genki 1&2 workbook and textbook).

As stated earlier, if the navigation was just a little bit easier to manage, it would easily have gained 5 stars.

Great, but will take some deciphering.

For those that are buying this to correct your own work in the Genki textbooks and workbooks:

This is great it has answers for all four books and even has examples of acceptable work for the exercises that ask the reader to talk about themselves. However it is entirely in Japanese. So it will take a little work to figure out what answers are meant for which exercise. It also, doesn't break up the books. All the grammar answers for every chapter from the two books combined will be in one section, while the Read/Writing exercises will be in a separate section, etc. These can be pretty easily deciphered if you have your text book next to you though.

About the Author
Terry Des Jardins, M.Ed, RRT is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Respiratory Care at Parkland College in Champaign, IL where he taught for 35 years. He still actively lectures third year medical students on clinical manifestations and assessment of respiratory disease and cardiopulmonary physiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at UrbanChampaign.

Worth the expense

This is not a very expensive text book for it's category. All the same it is a well written book by a reputable author and staff. The book demands that you pay full attention to every word in it's text. I mean that the text is written in a concise manner by a professional for the novice. Attention to detail is of utmost importance when you are studying. A solid basic knowledge of first year anatomy and physiology is essential. It wouldn't hurt to have your A&P text beside you. The author assumes that the student knows the basics and does not go into basic discussions but builds on each topic. Understand that this is a challenging text book pulling together all facets of A&P with full emphasis on Respiratory Care.
I personally find this text book a pleasant challenge. Keep in mind that the ultimate goal here is to be capable of keeping someone breathing. After all if you can't breath nothing else matters!

This book is really helpful if you're just starting out in Respiratory Therapy, the illusrations are great. The book is easy to read and understand. Great reference book. There are charts and quick references you can either cut out of the book or photo copy and have as a handy pocket guide.

A must-have book for CCNP Switch

This is a must have book for CCNP Switch self-study. The book goes into detail with practical applications for each topic. The difference in the level of detail and clarity, between this book and the CCNP Switch 642-813 Official Exam Certification Guide, is night and day. The book answers many questions I have that the exam certification guide gloss over. The writing style is entertaining and easy to follow. It is comparable to the CISCO LAN Switching book by Clark and Hamilton. Although the book will not replace the Exam Certification Guide, it is a must have for your CCNP study and a great addition to your library.

First of all, let me start with table of contents (TOC).

I agree with previous reviewer. This book reminds me of the Clark and Hamilton book. That book and this book should be side-by-side. The Clark and Hamilton is good for developing and reburshing your theoretical knowledge and some practical and real life configuration. But since the book was a legacy (the book mostly used Catalyst 5000 as configuration example with some Catalyst 6000 example as well), the Menga's book comes in handy to upgrade the knowledge and deliver new features.
I don't really agree though with previous reviewer said that this book is too advanced for CCNP candidates. Hey, currently I am not even CCNA certified but I still can go along, even without equipments within my reach (only by reading and seeing the diagram and configurations). If you already have proper understanding of the Clark and Hamilton's book, devour infos on Cisco website, and some practical configuration knowledge; you will be just fine.
As mentioned by previous reviewer, Menga tries to balance the discussion on both IOS-based and CatOS-based switches. He mostly uses 2950/3500 XL, 3550, 4000, and 6000 running latest CatOS and IOS as configuration examples. For instance he uses two 4000, one 2950, and one 3550 for STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) illustrations (although you can also use one 2948, one 2926G, one 2950, and one 3550 instead for cheaper version). He also mentions that you can use cheaper version (e.g. 2948 instead of 4000) or even no equipment at all and still understand at least 75% of the book content. Go to Cisco Press's website to find out what the least equipments you need to practise the labs.
The book starts with Cisco switches product and technology, then it goes from foundation theory to configuration examples. Although the theory does not go as deep as the Clark and Hamilton's, it should be sufficient for brush up. Again, for those who have little of no switching knowledge, get the Clark and Hamilton's as well as the Menga's as side-by-side references. The link to the Clark and Hamilton's is already provided above for conveniences.
For you who still need more knowledge, you can also get Karl Solie's CCIE Practical Studies Vol. II as complement. Don't get so nervous even both the Clark and Hamilton's and Solie's have title "CCIE" on them. Their contents are not for CCIE but for CCNA and CCNP instead. These three books will provide you a solid understanding of Cisco switching technology and configurations.

Amazing Reference For Cisco Switching

Do you guys remember Cisco LAN Switching by Clark Hamilton? That book is considered switching bible in networking industry. Now I'll say if you are dealing with Cisco switching in 2003 than this is your bible! This book discusses all new advancements in switching in depth. Justin's hard work is evident in every chapter and he must have put lot of effort in coming up with this book. Hands on labs are just awesome! For those labs only, I'll pay 50 bucks! The book covers all topics like VLAN, STP, VTP, Layer3 Switching, InterVlan Routing and QOS in detail. Clear and Precise diagrams are provided to aid your understanding. CatOS and IOS both get well deserved coverage. Author is not limited to any one switching platform in his examples but he is using 6500s with SUPS, 4500s, 3550 et al. Even hard to find topics like when to use MLS and CEF is discussed in amazing detail. The title is misleading, this book is way too advanced for CCNPs but it is a must-have resource for CCIE lab and field. If you are already a CCIE and might feel you don't need it, think again! This is one of those books which will always find special place in your bookshelf like Jeff Doyle, Richard Stevens. I can't say enough but it is simply a fantastic effort by Justin and Cisco Press. Five Stars!
